26 October 2008

Today I did the second draft of analysis of information. Before, my analysis of information still in the format of questions and answers, but in this second draft, I changed it to essay form and reconstruct the paragraphs arrangements and some sentences and words. I also changed some words that are informal to formal and more concise.

The difficulty that I found was that to search the informal words and how to change it to formal words and more concise than before. I rarely write a report which uses formal language so it’s not familiar to me. I solved it by consider the suggestions that my supervisor had given me before which is to change ‘probably’ or ‘maybe’ to ‘I think’ or something that sounds more formal.

This leads me to have a better understanding about PP and its expectation which are to have an essay format report with formal language. This essay format report is also must following the MLA report format too.

A new perspective that could be investigated further through future inquiry to this topic is to learn how to do an exact MLA report format. This is what I can do differently.

Today I checked my journal and see if there’s anything needs to be added or justified. Because sometimes I forgot to write my journal, so I added a few and justified some of the written journals. I also added some photos to it.

This activity leads me to have a better understanding about PP and its expectation that I need to do my journal every time I did something that relates to my personal project (to take record). Journal is very important because this is where I put my evidences that I did something for my personal project. That’s why I need to update it every time I did something that relates to my personal project.

15 October 2008

Today I revised my plans and reports. My supervisor (Ms. Alison) has a feedback for me that I should use formal language for my reports. For example, words such as ‘probably’, ‘maybe’, and others should change into ‘I think’ or other formal language.
The difficulty that I find is that to search for the non-formal words to formal words. I solved it by focus on each of the sentence and tried to search for the non-formal words used in there and changed to formal words.

This activity and my supervisor’s feedback lead me to have a better understanding about PP and its expectation that I should make reports with formal language because the IBO demands so.
I can do differently by ask someone else to check my reports and ask them if I use formal language or not and about the structures of each report.

4 October 2008

Today I was making the trial for my bag. I decided to do this trial because I need to know how to make my bag before I actually make it, so if there’s anything wrong or need to be modified, I would know it and when the time I make the actual bag, I wouldn’t do any mistake (if there’s no any justification made on the day when I make the actual bag).
The equipments used for today were sewing machine, garments, marker, ruler, scissor, stationary (to take records), and camera (to take pictures). I use cheap materials (because this is just for the trial) and cut it to two for each different color (there are two colors) with the size of 28cmx18cm (later it would become 26cmx16cm because it would requires 1 cm for the inside sewing). After that, sew the perimeter each of the same color (1 cm distance; leave a hole for the mouth of the bag). Cut another garment (different color) for the rope of the bag (98cm) and sew at each side of one of the garment (inside) with the method of ‘X’ sewing technique. Put another color inside the other color and sew the open mouth of the bag. Then it’s done. The bag has two different colors and just simply pulls it inside out and it becomes another design.

The difficulty that I find is that to try to visualize how it would work out at the end. The tailor helps me with me sewing the garment first and then he would show me how to attach each of the garments so that at the end it would work out. He demonstrated it and then I finally understand how to; then I went back to work with him helping me with making the bag and supervise me (together with my aunt).

I can do differently by using the same rope that I’ll use for my actual bag later so that it would be better and there’s no any justification made again on the day when I make the actual bag.
